I was able to interview the lovely Millie Marotta - creator of beautiful adult colouring books with Culture Toronto recently.

Animal Kingdom is so intricate and I am looking forward to many days of colouring in the lines.

MAGazine article

i was asked to represent OCAD's jewellery department in the Metal Arts Guild magazine for their College Review issue last year.

Elisabeth Heidinga interviewed me as well as Joyce Yang and Melissa Oleniuk about our experiences at OCAD and included images of our thesis work for the article - including my branch bun cage there's nothing here but what's here is mine. it was really exciting at the time since it was the first time my work was in a magazine.

i was absentmindedly going through the latest issue of MAGazine and unexpectantly saw my treehouse piece included in this year's article by Jessamyn Khan. It was a nice surprise.

i'll try to scan the article and post it soon.

The Nature of Diamonds

i wrote an exhibition review on "The Nature of Diamonds" that was on display in the ROM last year. i just realized i never posted it for anyone to see. if you'd like, you can read the article on the Metal Arts Guild website.

an article on crafthaus

i've recently joined crafthaus which is an online guild of sorts where professional craft artists display their work and build connections.

Rickson Salkeld is one of their frequent contributors in discussions and recently published  "Who am I? I am Canadian." There she compiled a small gallery of "some of the great Canadian jewellery, ceramics, and miscellaneous craft artists [that she's] come across in [her] travels" and has graciously included one of my thesis pieces "just because you feel it doesn't mean it's there."

a blog post

a fellow jeweller, Alexis Kostuk, was kind enough to visit my booth at the Outdoor Show last weekend and then write up a little post about her visit on the Jewel Envy blog.

it's nice to see other jewellers at your booth, they tend to have insightful perspectives. and of course, they know what you're going through. 

here is one of her pieces that i particularly like, it's very whimsical and includes turquoise, flocking (a technique i want to try), resin, pearls, and sterling silver.

a little publication

i recently found out that one of my pieces was included in the Ontario Craft Council's Annual General Report. it's just a little photo of my labyrinth bun cage "sometimes goodbye's the only way," but it's there.

above it is a piece by the very talented miss julie moon. i was fortunate enough to see her MFA thesis work at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition last weekend and it was ah-mazing.

i especially love this piece and want it in my home:

some good and bad

i had some technical problems with my kiln today leaving me extremely frustrated. hopefully it gets resolved soon.

i felt better when i found my transitional cocoon was uploaded to this site. as well as when i found some of my work on flickrhivemind - which is apparently also known as a place for "the world's best photos."

the very first cocoon i made from my first year in jewellery was included in the set "the world's best photos of sterling silver and thread." though, the photo itself is awful. this was long before i knew how to document my work properly.

and my labyrinth bun cage, aka "sometimes goodbye's the only way," "jack's spoon," my rollercoaster earring, and my leaf knife were all included in the set "the world's best photos of design and metalsmithing."

i'm not sure who curated these sets but thank you for including me in them :)

it's a small world

i finally got the newest awards and scholarships pamphlet from the ontario crafts council.

i'm lucky to share this little publication with some very talented, award winning artists.

michelle mendlowitz is on the cover, then from left to right its alain belanger, daryl ferrette, julie moon, (they forgot to cite the next one, but i think its tiana roebuck), me :D, and then annie tung.

we all had a show together with the other winners last year but it's funny how small the art/craft/design world can be. especially when many of its artisans started out their careers at my school.

michelle was my ceramics technician at OCAD when I was learning mouldmaking, she also helped me learn how to use the pottery wheel :) julie's work is ah-mazing. i especially love her new masters sculptures. they're so whimsical - modern and retro at the same time. she used to be OCAD's cashier while she made beautiful ceramic sculptures at night. me and jon used to harass her for our paycheques every week. and finally, i am also a great admirer of annie's beautifully haunting work - i have been ever since I saw her thesis work at OCAD's annual grad show when i was just starting to delve into jewellery.

a new pamphlet

i just discovered that my piece: dilapidated dreams is featured in the ontario craft council's awards and scholarships pamphlet since i was one of their award winners last year. i was hoping my work would be featured in at least one of their new pamphlets. i'm going to stop by the OCC and see if there are any other publications with my work or me (sometimes they depict the artist) inside.

once i get my hand on a copy i'll scan it and post it on the blog.
